Châtel-Saint-Germain

Châtel -Saint -Germain is a French municipality with 2286 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region.

Geography

The Châtel -Saint- Germain is located about eight kilometers west of the city center of Metz in the valley of the Ruisseau de Montvaux, a small tributary of the Moselle.

History

The town already existed in pre-Roman times, it was first mentioned in the 11th century as a castellum, which was associated with an attachment to the Mont Saint Germain. For 1140 the church of St. Germain and Related, Benedictine is attested, but this was abolished in 1760. Since 1661 Châtel -Saint -Germain belongs to France.

The place was 1915-18 the Germanized name Sankt German, 1940-43 and 1943-44 Germannsburg German castle.
