Châtillon-sur-Saône

Châtillon -sur -Saône is a commune of 144 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Vosges in the Lorraine region; it belongs to the district Neufchâteau and Canton Lamarche.

Geography

The municipality lies at the mouth of Châtillon Apance in the Saône in the extreme southwest of Lorraine. It is bordered on the southwest by the Champagne-Ardenne region in the southeast and to the region of Franche -Comté. Neighboring communities of Châtillon -sur -Saône are Lironcourt in the north, Grignoncourt in the northeast, Jonvelle in the southeast, southwest, and Enfonvelle in Fresnes- sur- Apance in the West.

History

In Châtillon there was a fortress of Count Henry III. , Count of Bar, 1301 to Philip IV, King of France, ceded, when he was in his captivity. To 1634 the town was destroyed by Swedish troops. After the reconstruction was Châtillon seat of a royal bailiff. From 1790 to 1801 the place was even the seat of a canton administration.
