Villers (Vosges)

Villers is a commune in the Vosges department in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district Neufchâteau, the Canton of Mirecourt and founded in 1997, Local Government Association, Pays de Mirecourt.

Geography

The 226 inhabitants (1 January 2011 ) scoring town of Villers located 32 kilometers north- west of Epinal in the hill country between the Moselle and Madon.

81 hectares of the municipality is forested.

Neighboring communities of Villers Mazirot are in the north, Avillers in the northeast, Vroville in the south and Mirecourt in the West.

History

The village of Villers is known in written documents at least since 1558. In the period of the ancien régime Villers belonged to Bailliage Mirecourt, the parish was under the Chapter Remiremont.

A cholera epidemic has been handed back to 1854, which claimed 20 victims.

The Mairie and school building dates from 1848, the church was built in 1845.
