Crans- près -Céligny is a municipality in the district of Nyon in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Crans- près -Céligny is located on 423 m above sea level. M., 4 km southwest of the district town of Nyon (air line). The village is located on a terrace on the west bank of Lake Geneva and across the little valley of the Nant du Pry.

The area of ​​4.3 km ² large municipality area includes a section on the western shore of Lake Geneva. The population of Crans- près -Céligny amounted in 1850 to 286 residents in 1900 to 350 inhabitants. History

The discovery of a needle from the Bronze Age, traces of Roman and early medieval graves point to an early settlement of the municipality. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1008 under the name Cranos, probably derived from the Burgundian personal names Grado. Crans- près -Céligny since 1036 was in the possession of the Lausanne Cathedral Chapter and came in 1234 to the Kastlan of Saint- Prex.

With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, Crans- près -Céligny came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Nyon. Attractions

The Castle of Crans was built 1764-67 on the site of a medieval manor house in a beautiful location on the edge of the terrace area.
