The district of Düren is a circle in the west of North Rhine -Westphalia in the district of Cologne.

Geography

Spatial location

The district of Düren in the Rhineland lies and extends to parts of the North Eifel in the south of the district and the Jülich flaring in the north. Through the circle flows from south to north the Rur. The southwestern corner of the county area is part of the Eifel National Park.

Neighboring districts or urban -

The Düren district is bordered to the north by the county Heinberg, in the north -east of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, on the east by the Rhine -Erft, to the south by the district of Euskirchen and to the west by the cities of Aachen region.

History, regional reforms

In the spring of 1816, the circles were formed. The then district of Düren originated from the cantons Düren and Froitzheim and parts of the cantons Eschweiler Kerpen, Linnich and Monschau. It included except the city of Düren communities Langerwehe and Weisweiler and the 22 mayors Arnoldsweiler, Bins field Birgel, Birkesdorf, Bürvenich, Drove, Echtz, Froitzheim, Füssenich, Kelz, Lamersdorf, Memory, Merzenich, Nideggen, Lower Trim, Noervenich, Nothberg, Pier, Sievernich, road - Bergstein, stock Home and Wollersheim.

1932 came from the district of Düren Nothberg together with Bohl, Hastenrath, Scherpenseel and Volkenrath the town of Eschweiler in the former district Aachen. The " Hastenrath tip " fell on the town of Stolberg.

On August 4, 1972, the Supreme Administrative Court ruled that Heimbach again an independent municipality is. Schmidt remains in Nideggen. Membership in the district of Düren it remained unaffected.

On January 1, 1975, the municipal government reform for the Cologne - Bonn area came into force. This Wissersheim, Pingsheim and Dorweiler came from the then Erftkreis the district of Düren

Coat of arms

The Arms of Düren shows in the upper half of a growing lion, which was taken from the coat of arms of the Dukes of Jülich, the earlier mitregierten the town of Düren. Economy

Largest company in the district of Düren is the company SIG Combibloc in Linnich. It is with your beverage carton manufacture just one example of the paper industry in the district. 24 Jewish cemeteries have been documented for the district of Düren in Aldenhoven ( 2), in Duren ( 3), Hurtgenwald ( 1), indene ( 2) in Jülich ( 1), in Kreuzau ( 2), in Langerwehe (1 ), in Linnich ( 3), Merzenich ( 1), in Nideggen ( 2), Titz (2) and in Vettweiß (4). There are worth protecting cultural monuments - stone witnesses for previously existing Jewish communities and a lively Jewish community life until the 1930s.
