Ebenezer Knowlton

Ebenezer Knowlton (December 6, 1815 in Pittsfield, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, † September 10, 1874 in South Montville, Maine ) was an American politician. Between 1855 and 1857 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In 1825, Ebenezer Knowlton moved with his parents to South Montville, Maine. There he attended the public schools. After a subsequent study of theology, he became a pastor. At the same time Knowlton was also active in politics. Between 1844 and 1850 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Maine. In 1846, he served as its president. In the 1850s he was a member of the short-lived opposition party.

1854 Knowlton as its candidate for the third constituency of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1855 is the successor of E. Wilder Farley. Until March 3, 1857, he was able to complete a term in Congress. This was determined by the debates preceding the Civil War.

After the end of his time in the House of Representatives to Ebenezer Knowlton retired from politics. In the following years he worked again as a clergyman. He died on 10 September 1874 in South Montville and was also buried there.
