Mark Harris (Maine politician)

Mark Harris ( born January 27, 1779 Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts, † March 2, 1843 in New York City ) was an American politician. Between 1822 and 1823 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Mark Harris attended the public schools of his home. In 1800, he moved to Portland, which until 1820 was part of Massachusetts and since then is part of the State of Maine. In Portland, Harris was involved in trade. Politically, he was a member of the Democratic- Republican Party. In 1816 he was elected to the Massachusetts Senate. He also held several local offices in Portland.

Following the resignation of Congressman Ezekiel Whitman in 1822 Harris was the second electoral district of Maine as his successor in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on December 2, 1822 at its new mandate. Until March 3, 1823, he finished in the opened Congress legislature of his predecessor.

After his short time in the federal capital Harris resumed his previous employment in the commercial again. In 1830 he was elected to the House of Representatives from Maine. Between 1824 and 1832 Harris was also eunuchs in Cumberland County. This post he held from 1834 to 1840 again. In 1828 and from 1832 to 1834 he was Minister of Finance of Maine. In 1842 he moved to New York, where he also worked in retail. He is also passed on March 2, 1843. Mark Harris was buried in Portland.
