Franklin Clark

Franklin Clark ( born August 2, 1801 in Wiscasset, Lincoln County, Massachusetts; † August 24, 1874 in Brooklyn, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1847 and 1849 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Franklin Clark was born 1801 in Wiscasset, which was still part of Massachusetts at that time. Since the founding of Maine in 1820 the place is located in that State. Clark attended the common schools and later became active in the timber industry and shipbuilding. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. In 1847 he sat in the Senate of Maine.

In the congressional elections of 1846 Clark was in the fourth electoral district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he met on March 4, 1847 the successor of John D. McCrate. Until March 3, 1849, he completed a term in Congress. This was determined by the events and the aftermath of the Mexican-American War. After the war, large areas were in the west and southwest of the present-day United States under American administration.

After his time in the House of Representatives Clark worked in the wood processing industry. He died on August 24, 1874 in Brooklyn.
