James B. Longley, Jr.

James B. "Jim" Longley, Jr. (born 7 July 1951, Lewiston, Maine) is an American politician. Between 1995 and 1997 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Longley is a son of the former governor of Maine, James B. Longley ( 1924-1980 ). He attended Phillips Academy in Andover and the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester. After a subsequent law studies at the University of Maine and his admission as an attorney, he began to practice in his new profession. In 1976 he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. At that time, Longley also worked as private secretary to his father. Later he headed in addition to his legal practice various small businesses in the area of Portland.

Politically, Longley joined the Republican Party. In 1994 he was the first electoral district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he came into effect on 3 January 1995, the successor to the Democrats Thomas Andrews. Since two years later he was defeated Tom Allen, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1997. During this time, he campaigned for a strong national defense.

In 1998, James Longley applied unsuccessfully for the post of Governor of Maine. In these elections, it reached only 19% of the vote. The victory went to the incumbent Angus King.
