Frank McCool

Francis "Frank" McCool ( born October 27, 1918 in Calgary, Alberta; † 20 May 1973) was a Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played from 1944 to 1946 for the Toronto Maple Leafs in the National Hockey League.

Career

Frank McCool began his career as a professional ice hockey goaltender in his hometown of Calgary, where he played for a number of smaller teams before it ran aground 1939-1942 for the team of Gonzaga University. For the 1942/43 season McCool returned to Calgary back to play for the Calgary Currie Army before he exposed due to the war in the following season with the Ice Hockey.

On 25 October 1944, the Canadians received as a free agent contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League, with which he, like the prestigious Stanley Cup won in his first season. In addition, the goalie Calder Memorial Trophy was awarded as the best rookie. In the finals against the Detroit Red Wings McCool presented with three shutouts to start the best- of-seven series an NHL record that still exists.

In his second NHL season McCool was still 22 times before he had to end his career due to illness at the age of 28 years. Finally, after a long illness he died in 1973 at 54 years.
