Gössitz
Gössitz is a municipality in the administrative community Ranis - goats back in the Thuringian Saale- Orla-Kreis.
Location
Gössitz is at a higher plateau of the East Thuringian Slate Mountains northeast above the water level of the dam Hohenwarte. The district is hilly and surrounded by forest. With a local link road connection is given to the provincial road 1104. Pössneck, Saalfeld and goats are back near towns in this area.
History
Gössitz was the Slavic name " gozd " or " goozd " ( mountain forest ) was first mentioned in records in 1108. Since 1644 it is known under the present name. In 1603 Gössitz was granted market rights. Southeast of Gössitz on the " castle Städel " was probably a fortified manor house. The farmers of the predominantly agricultural town also went the way of the East German agriculture.
