Schmieritz

Schmieritz is a municipality in the administrative community Triptis in the Thuringian Saale- Orla-Kreis.

Geography

Schmieritz located on the Northern Slope of the East Thuringian Slate Mountains and in the transition to the Orlasenke. In the valley the main road runs 281 with connection to the Federal Highway 9 and the railway line Gera -Saalfeld.

The municipality consists of the villages Schmieritz, Traun and world joke.

History

Schmieritz was the first time in 1319 as Smiricz, Traun 1378 and Weltwitz 1257 documentary mention.

About a kilometer south of the village Weltwitz it was on the spur -like hill, a hill fort dating from the 10th or 11th century. Findings suggest that the plant was temporarily inhabited by humans. Builders were probably Slavs, but also traces of German inhabitants were found. The Wall and grave system is still clearly visible.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 17 October 1995 by the Thuringian State Office of Administration.

Blazon: "Divided of blue and gold; top three (1:2) silver millstones, below a blue beam pump. "

The three millstones in the upper part of the arms point to the large number of in the community once operated wind and water mills; the number of millstones stands for the number of districts. The subject in the lower part refers to the many Schwengelpumpen and fountain in the village.

The coat of arms was designed by the Goßwitzer Manfred Fischer.
