Lemnitz

Lemnitz is a municipality in the administrative community Triptis in the Thuringian Saale- Orla-Kreis on the edge of the Thuringian Forest.

The municipality consists of the villages Lemnitz ( 1378 ) and Leubsdorf ( 1378 ) in parenthesis = first mentioned documentary.

History

The place name Lemnitz probably goes back to a Slavic personal names. So he called in 1378 Lubenwicz or Lubinwicz and already in 1537 Lemnitz. In 1879 Lemnitz consisted of a manor with 34 houses and 173 inhabitants.

Attractions

The baroque Lemnitzer castle was built in the years 1739 to 1747 and was formerly owned by the famous linguist Hans Conon of the Gabelentz. The last owner before the expropriation was Hans von der Gabelentz. From 1962 to 1996 the castle was in a retirement home.

The former headquarters of the manor is now used as a residence and the outbuildings as a community club house with rooms. The belonging to the manor barn houses since 1999 as a museum barn, an exhibition of old agricultural small and large equipment, and a meeting with the hall.
