Large Small is a market town in the district of Leibnitz, Styria, Austria with 2297 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013).

Geography

For tourism, it is described as idyllic community. It lies on the southern Styrian wine route and thus at the entrance to the so-called Styrian Tuscany.

Community structure

On 1 September 1968 the small community was renamed in UPPERCASE. The municipality comprises the cadastral (area 2001): Postal 122.94 ha, 447.33 ha gold, Großklein 425.69 ha, 268.62 ha Mantrach, Mattel mountain 192.61 ha, 195.89 ha Nestelbach, Nestelberg at Large Small 499.34 ha and 619.57 ha Oberfahrenbach Villages (population 2011) are: Postal (142) gold ( 198) Large Small ( 596), Mantrach ( 339 ) Mattel Berg ( 234) Nestelbach (191) Nestelberg ( 359) and Oberfahrenbach (203). Other districts are small and small Wippelsach.

Culture and sights

In Small Small significant grave finds from the Hallstatt period have been discovered. While walking in the woods around gold encountered frequently on small to medium sized hilltops intergrown under their soil Hallstatt cemetery ( grave mound ) harbor. The Hallstatt museum displays finds and features of the region from about five and a half millennia. It covers a period from the Neolithic Age to the late Middle Ages.

The Burgstallkogel is seen as one of the main references of the early Iron Age. On it, a hilltop settlement was discovered, which is connected to a burial ground in Sulmtal ( Sulmtalnekropole ). There are about 700 grave sites ( grave mound ) in it. On a river terrace near the village of Klein Klein four rich princely tombs were discovered. They shall be counted towards the eastern Hallstatt circle. The results of excavation have been investigated by an interdisciplinary group of researchers.

Place name

By 1968 the community was named Small, Large Klein was one of the villages thereof. To avoid confusion, the name has since been used UPPERCASE for the entire community. In the 15th century when Michel Klawn Large Small Small Small Klawn as little was known. The name goes back to small Slovenian roots and can be traced back to glina ( clay) or Kljun ( Schnabel, after the form of a corridor).

Coat of arms

The coat of arms was granted in 1969. Description: "In the silver shield with a silver antique urn occupied black hills, hovering about two red roses " Legend: The urn stands for the Hallstatt Gaufürstentum on the Burgstallkogel ( an ancestor of the state capital ). The roses for the Trautmann villages, they had a time lock Ottersbach Mantrach. Meaning of the crest: Love conquers death.

Traffic

Large Small lies south of Sulmtal road. The nearest train station is in Leibnitz. Regular bus services among others to Leibnitz and Leutschach.
