Hennadiy Udovenko
Hennadij Jossypowytsch Udovenko (Ukrainian Геннадій Йосипович Удовенко, scientific transliteration Hennadij Josypovyč Udovenko, distributed internationally is the English transcription Hennadiy Udovenko; born June 22, 1931 in Krivoy Rog, USSR; † February 12, 2013 ) was a Ukrainian politician and diplomat.
Udovenko was from 1994 to 1998 Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine and the 1997/98 President of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
1951 began his career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, such as Belarus, although part of the USSR possessed in international organizations, like since 1945 own memberships. 1965 to 1971 and 1977 to 1980 he worked at the United Nations in Geneva and New York. From 1980 to 1985 Udovenko was Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine, then permanent representative of his home at the United Nations, 1985, he sat for one months the Security Council as a representative of the Ukraine. In 1991, he was Vice President of the 46th UN General Assembly. 1992-1994 represented Udovenko Ukraine as ambassador to Poland.
Udovenko was a well-known representative of the Ruch- party, in the final stages of the USSR Union of dissidents and advocates of the independence of Ukraine, he headed to the cleavage of the Ruch, after the mysterious death of its chairman Vyacheslav Chornovil 1999, the part of the party, the President Leonid Kuchma was close and this supported in the runoff election in 1999. Under Kuchma was Udovenko already on August 25, 1994 to April 17, 1998 the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs before.
Towards the end of his time as Secretary of the UN General Assembly elected him on 16 September 1997 as its president. By the end of this term of office on 9 September 1998, he led the 52nd regular, the resumption of the tenth emergency session and the 20th special session.
Since 1998, he sat in the Ukrainian parliament and was chairman of the Committee on Human Rights and National Minorities; he belonged to the new " party of power" by President Viktor Yushchenko.
He was married and has a daughter.
