Izernore

Izernore is a town in the French department of Ain ​​, in the Rhône -Alpes. It is the capital of the canton in the Arrondissement Izernore Nantua.

Geography

History

Izernore can look back on a very long urban tradition. Here was the first Gallic and Gallo- Roman settlement Isarnodurum later, after Christ had a national significance to the 4th century. The place name is composed of the Gallic words isarnon (iron) and Duron ( Latinized durum; door, passage, and later in the importance of fortified settlement ) together.
