Lantenay (Ain)

Lantenay is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Lantenay lies 720 m above sea level. Level, about 18 kilometers northeast of the city Ambérieu -en- Bugey (air line). The farming village extends in the central Bugey, on an elevated plateau on the eastern edge of the broad valley of Combe du Val in the Jura, at the foot of the Cret Eculaz.

The area of ​​6.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the southern French Jura. The central part of the 1 km wide oriented in north-south direction trough the Combe du Val taken (average of 670 meters above sea level. M. ), which forms a syncline the Jura folds. History

The parish Lantenay with the small priory, both of which were first mentioned in the 13th century were dependent on Ambronay. The places of residence of Lantenay and Molard belonged in the 14th century of de Rougemont family ( at Aranc ), which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. Population

With 260 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Lantenay is one of the small communities of the department of Ain. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century ( in 1896 305 people were still counted ), a population increase was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Lantenay was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Vieu - d'Izenave. Further road links exist with Izenave and Outriaz. The nearest links to the A40 motorway is located at a distance of about eleven miles.
