James Brown Mason

James Brown Mason (* January 1775 in Thompson, Connecticut; † August 31, 1819 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) was an American politician. Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Mason attended after elementary school until 1791, the Brown University in Providence. After a Medizimstudium and his medical license, he practiced 1795-1798 in Charleston (South Carolina). After his return to Providence, he was there from 1798 trading.

Mason was a member of the Federalist Party. Between 1804 and 1814 he was a member of the House of Representatives of Rhode Iceland; since 1812 he was its president. In the congressional elections of 1814, he was elected as the second deputy state wide (at large) in the U.S. House of Representatives. He succeeds by Elisha Reynolds Potter. After a re-election in 1816 he was able to remain between 4 March 1815 and 3 March 1819 Congress.

In 1818 he gave up another candidacy. His mandate then went to Nathaniel Hazard. James Mason died only six months after the end of his time in Congress in Providence and was also buried there.
