Richard Jackson, Jr.

Richard Jackson Jr. ( born July 3, 1764 in Providence, Rhode Iceland, † April 18, 1838 ) was an American politician.

Jackson attended schools of Providence and Pomfret, Connecticut. Later he worked in a trading company and went to the cotton production after. From 1800 to 1838 he was president of the Washington Insurance Co. in Providence.

Jackson was elected as a Federalist to the 10th U.S. Congress. The election became necessary to occupy the vacant become by the death of Nehemiah Knight new seat. Jackson was re-elected in the following three conventions and represented as of November 11, 1808 to March 3, 1815 for the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives. He decided not to stand in the congressional elections in 1814 to re-election. In addition, he was from 1809 to 1838 curator of Brown University.

His son Charles also suggested a political career. Among other things, he was from 1845 to 1846 governor of Rhode Iceland.
