Oscar Lapham

Oscar Lapham ( born June 29, 1837 in Burrillville, Rhode Iceland, † March 29, 1926 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) was an American politician. Between 1891 and 1895 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Oscar Lapham attended schools in Massachusetts and New Hampshire and then the University Grammar School in Providence. Subsequently, he studied until 1864 at Brown University in Providence. At times, he also participated as a soldier of the Union in the Civil War. After studying law and its made ​​in 1867 admitted to the bar he began in Providence to work in his new profession.

Lapham was a member of the Democratic Party. Between 1887 and 1888 he was a member of the Senate of Rhode Iceland. From 1887 to 1891 he was also a member and treasurer of the Board of his party in his home state. In the years 1882, 1886 and 1888, he ran unsuccessfully for each U.S. House of Representatives. In 1890 he was elected to the Republican incumbent Henry J. Spooner in Congress. After a re-election in 1892 he was able to complete two legislative periods between March 4, 1891 March 3, 1895.
