John Linscom Boss, Jr.

John Linscom Boss, Jr. ( born September 7, 1780 in Charleston, South Carolina; † August 1st, 1819 in Newport, Rhode Iceland ) was an American politician. Between 1815 and 1819 he represented the State of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

After primary school, and a law degree and qualifying as a lawyer John Boss began in Newport to work in his new profession. He took an active part in the events of his time and has held several local offices. Boss was a member of the Federalist Party, and was from 1806 to 1815 deputy in the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland.

In the congressional elections of 1814 Boss was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he met on March 4, 1815 the successor of Richard Jackson. After a re-election in 1816 he was able to implement his mandate in Congress until March 3, 1819. Then his seat fell to Samuel Eddy of the Democratic- Republican Party. Boss died only five months after the expiry of his term of office in his home in Newport. Along with James Brown Mason, who served 1815-1819 the second seat in the state House of Representatives, John Boss was the last of his party Congressman from Rhode Iceland.
