Nehemiah Knight

Nehemiah Knight ( born March 23, 1746 "Knight Ville " (now Cranston, a suburb of Providence ), Rhode Iceland, † June 13, 1808 ) was an American politician, the Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives representing.

Knight attended community schools and then engaged in agricultural work. He was also from 1773 to 1800 served as town clerk. He was twice, in 1783 and 1787, was elected to the General Assembly of Rhode Iceland and Providence Plantations. In 1787 he was employed as Sheriff of Providence County. He was elected as a member of the Democratic-Republican Party in the 8th, 9th and 10th U.S. Congress, where he served until his death on 4 March 1803. Knight was buried in a small cemetery at the Cranston Street and Phoenix Avenue in "Knight Ville ", Providence.

His son Nehemiah R. Knight was Governor and U.S. Senator from Rhode Iceland.
