Melville Bull

Melville Bull ( born September 29, 1854 in Newport, Rhode Iceland, † July 5, 1909 in Middletown, Rhode Iceland ) was an American politician. Between 1895 and 1903 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Melville Bull attended the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter (New Hampshire) and then studied until 1877 at Harvard University. After his studies he was active in the area of Newport in agriculture. He became a member of the Republican Party and was from 1883 to 1885 deputy in the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland; 1885 to 1892 he was a member of the State Senate. After that, he was from 1892 to 1894 Vice- Governor of his home state.

In the congressional elections of 1894 Bull was elected in the first district of his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he broke on March 4, 1895 from the Democrats Oscar Lapham. After three re- elections, he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1903 a total of four legislative sessions. From 1899 to 1903 he was chairman of the Committee on Accounts. In the elections of 1902 he was defeated by Democrat Daniel Granger.

After the end of his time in Congress Melville Bull is politically no longer have appeared. He spent his retirement in Middletown, where he died in 1909.
