James M. Pendleton

James Monroe Pendleton ( born January 10, 1822 in North Stonington, Connecticut, † February 16, 1899 in Westerly, Rhode Iceland ) was an American politician. Between 1871 and 1875 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

James Pendleton attended schools in North Stonington and in Suffield, also in Connecticut. After a move to Westerly in Rhode Iceland he first began working in the trade. Later, he was also active in the banking and insurance business.

Politically, Pendleton member of the Republican Party. Between 1862 and 1865 he was a member of the Senate of Rhode Iceland. In 1868 he was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Chicago, was nominated on the Ulysses S. Grant as the presidential candidate of the party. 1870 Pendleton was elected in the Second District of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington. There he took over from the March 4, 1871 Nathan Dixon II. After a re-election in 1872, Pendleton was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1875 two legislative sessions.

In the elections of 1874 he was defeated Latimer Whipple Ballou. Between 1879 and 1884 James Pendleton was a deputy in the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland. After that, he was until 1889 Chairman of the Welfare Committee of Rhode Iceland. He died in February 1889 in Westerly.
