John Hutton, Baron Hutton of Furness

John Matthew Patrick Hutton ( born May 6, 1955 in London) is a British politician ( Labour ). From 2005 to 2007 he was Minister for Work and Pensions in the cabinet of Tony Blair, 2007-2008 Trade and Industry Minister and Minister of Defence from 2008 to 2009 under Gordon Brown.

Life

John Hutton attended the Boys High School West Cliff and Magdalen College, University of Oxford. Prior to his political career, he taught law at the University of Northumbria.

His political career began with a failure in the elections in 1987, when Hutton in vain endeavored to become the seat for the constituency of Penrith and the Borders. Nor fated with success were the elections to the European Parliament in 1989 for the constituency of Cumbria and North Lancashire.

Since 1992 he has been Member of Parliament for the Labour Party in the House of Commons and is representing the constituency of Barrow and Furness in Cumbria. This traditional Labour constituency he could recapture for Labour from Conservative MP Cecil Simon Franks, who by 1983 represented that constituency until 1992.

In 1998 he entered the service of the Ministry of Health. He became a member of the Privy Council ( Her Majesty 's Most Honourable Privy Council ) 2001. He was in the reshuffle that followed the elections, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office in 2005, sparking Alan Milbun from. From November 2005 to June 2007 he served as Minister of Health. On 28 June 2007 Hutton was appointed the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown for Industry and Commerce Minister.

On 27 June 2010, Hutton life peer ( nobleman ) named Baron Hutton of Furness. He was introduced on 1 July 2010 in the House of Lords.
