Jon Porter

Jonathan Christopher " Jon" Porter ( born May 16, 1955 in Fort Dodge, Iowa ) is an American politician. Between 2003 and 2009 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Nevada in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Early years and political rise

Jonathan Porter first attended the Humboldt High School and then the Briarcliff College in Sioux City, Iowa. He then worked as a businessman. Since 1983 he was also representative of an agricultural insurance company. Porter was a member of the Republican Party. After moving to Boulder City, Nevada, he was 1983-1993 there City Council. From 1987 to 1991 he was also mayor of this municipality. Between 1994 and 2002 he was a member of the Senate from Nevada.

Porter in the U.S. Congress

In 2000, Jonathan Porter ran in the first electoral district of Nevada for the U.S. House of Representatives. But He defeated Shelley Berkley, the candidate of the Democratic Party. In the 2002 elections, he successfully ran in the newly created third district for the Congress.
