The Kansas City Red Wings were an American ice hockey franchise of the Central Hockey League from Kansas City, Missouri.

History

The Kansas City Red Wings took to season 1977/78 on the game operation in the Central Hockey League, in which they were the new farm team of the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League after this cooperation with the Rhode Iceland Reds of the American Hockey League had ended. In Kansas City, the Red Wings filled the gap left by the Kansas City Blues in 1977. In its premiere season, the Kansas City Red Wings missed the playoffs for the Adams Cup in fifth place after the regular season yet. In the 1978/79 season they reached in the regular season in third place and then failed in the first playoff round.

For the 1979/80 season Detroit founded a new AHL farm team called the Adirondack Red Wings, whereupon the Kansas City Red Wings einstellten game operation again after two years. It was not until 1990, with the Kansas City Blades of the International Hockey League again a team from the city of the operation of gambling in professional hockey on.
