Karol Beck

Karol Beck ( born April 3, 1982 in Zvolen ) is a Slovak tennis player. Its highest ranking in the world rankings, he reached in the single on 22 August 2005 with rank 36, in a double on 17 October 2005 with rank 62 in 2006 he was found guilty of doping and banned for two years.

Career

As a teenager, Beck succeeded in 2000, the quarter-finals of the singles tournament and the semifinals of the doubles tournament at Wimbledon.

2001

In the 2001 season, the Slovak was professional. In his first season, the right-handed exclusively played tournaments Futures and Challenger - class, where he won the Russia F1 Futures tournament in Balaschicha in August. There, he won the doubles with his partner Igor Zelenay. In addition to this success, he reached the finals of the F1 in Croatia Zagreb, which he lost to Croat Lovro Zovko, as well as the Challenger tournament in Togliatti, in which he had against Alexander Peya of Austria in the cold. Again, he won the doubles competition with Zelenay. Moreover, the two Slovaks were at the Challenger tournaments Prague- 2 and the in Zabrze in the final. Along with his compatriot Branislav Sekáč he also won the Challenger tournament in Oberstaufen and the Future in Most.

2002

2002 Beck celebrated in February his Davis Cup debut for his country against the United States. He lost both his singles match against Pete Sampras and Andy Roddick and the doubles. His opening match against Sampras, which he lost in four sets, he later described as the highlight of his career.

On the tour, he celebrated his next Futures title in February when Greece F2 in Kalamata. In June, the Slovak made ​​his first appearance at a Grand Slam tournament at Wimbledon as a qualifier. There he won in the first round in five sets against Brazilian Andre Simoni before he failed in the second round against the set on position 15 Romanian Andrei Pavel. In the further course of the year who won the Challenger tournament in Bristol, and reached the finals in Manchester and Bratislava, where he lost to Uladzimir Waltschkou or against Antony Dupuis. He also reached the main round of the ATP tournament in Stockholm, where he failed in the first round.

Also in double reached Beck with his partner Jaroslav Levinský, with whom he had previously won the Challenger tournament in Budapest, the main round of Wimbledon, already failed there, however, in the first round. With Levinský he also won at the end of the Prague -2- Future. When Challenger tournaments, he was successful in Osaka with the Frenchman Cedric Kauffman and in Manchester with the Pakistani Aisam -ul- Haq Qureshi. He also reached the finals in Segovia and in Bronx with Sander Groen and Tomáš Zíb. 2003

In the 2003 season managed Beck now regularly to higher-class tournaments and played rarely in the lower class Challenger tournaments. He reached all four Grand Slam tournaments, the main round, but never got beyond the first round. His biggest successes of the year, reaching the fourth round at the Masters tournament in Montreal and the quarter-finals of the tournament in Copenhagen. He reached the semifinals of the doubles competition also on the side of Karol Kučera. In addition, he still won the beginning of his second Challenger title in Heilbronn and celebrated his first victory against Luxembourg in the Davis Cup. He finished the season with rank 66 for the first time in the top 100 in the world tennis rankings.

2004

Also in 2004, Beck improved steadily in the world rankings at the end and climbed into the Top 50 He achieved inter alia through the finals in October at the tournament in St. Petersburg, where he lost to Mikhail Youzhny, however. In addition, he was able to reach the second round at the U.S. Open, which represents his best performance at a Grand Slam tournament to date, and win the Challenger tournaments in Wroclaw and Surbiton. In Wimbledon, he cut through the draw in the third round well. At the Olympic Games in Athens, he took part for his country both in single as well as double, but lost each in the first round. Along with Jaroslav Levinský he also won yet Challenger title in Zagreb and Dnipropetrovsk.

2005

2005 Beck reached at the beginning of the season the third round in singles, and the second round in doubles, the Australian Open and the quarterfinals in Milan and Marseille, but stagnated its shape in the course of the year. Only in the summer he was able to record at the Canada Masters in Montreal with the first reaching a quarter-final at a Masters tournament again a success, in the course of which he achieved his highest position in the world rankings with position 36 to today. He also won the Sunrise Challenger tournament in Florida in March. Better was the season in the David Cup for the Slovaks, where he made a single game in a double and only one in singles and thus was responsible for the first finals of Slovakia in this tournament. However, he did not participate in the final, which lost to Slovakia against Croatia.

2006

After he had attended since November of last year at a tournament more, the ITF announced that Beck has been tested in the semi-finals of the Davis Cup against Argentina in September 2005 to positive clenbuterol and then locked him in arrears for two years from November 2005.

2007

2008

Also in the 2008 season played Beck again exclusively at Challenger tournaments. He reached the finals here from Manchester and Helsinki. Although he was not a qualification for higher class tournaments, Beck climbed during the season by more than 400 places in the world rankings up and eventually ended the year on the 145th rank.

2009

In 2009, Beck was able to qualify for the main rounds better tournaments for the first time since his doping suspension again. So he reached the second round at Wimbledon and failed at the U.S. Open in the first. In addition, he won his first title after his forced break when Challenger tournament in Pozoblanco, he also reached the final of the Heilbronn- Challengers. In doubles, the season was more successful with his partner Levinský. The two brought the title of the Challenger tournaments in Heilbronn, Besançon, Bergamo, Rhodes and Pozoblanco.
