Kitzeck im Sausal is the highest village with vineyards in Austria and is located near the town of Leibnitz in Styria. The municipality has 1221 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) and is one of the main towns in the region Sausal in the political district of Leibnitz.

Geography

Kitzeck im Sausal is between the Kor in the west, the Little Hungarian Plain in the east, the mountains of Upper Styria in the north and the ridge of Slovenia in the south. The area of ​​the municipality is 1,629 ha

The municipality comprises the cadastral Brudersegg, Einoed, Fresing, Gauitsch, Greith, Neurath and stone fences. On 1 July 1952, the community was renamed Steinriegel in Kitzeck im Sausal.

Economy

The vines grow on slopes that are very steep. The vineyard area is about 130 ha in Kitzeck there are numerous tavern and catering businesses.

Population

The inhabitants of Kitzeck since 1869, when the community numbered 1754 inhabitants, fallen almost continuously with few exceptions. 2001 were still living in 1198 people in the community. The population loss was due to emigration. 2011 Kitzeck had 1235 inhabitants again.
