Leicestershire
Leicestershire [ lɛstəʃ ( ɪ ) ə ] is a county in central England. The county is named after the administrative headquarters, the city of Leicester, named. The county borders on the city circle ( Unitary Authority) in Leicester as well as the counties of Lincolnshire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Large portions of the National Forest are part of the county. Without the city of Leicester, the population is 648 700 inhabitants (2010 ) living in an area of 2083 km ².
History
Leicestershire filled according to the Domesday Book, one by William the Conqueror in the 11th century led four census wapentakes ( Hundreds ): Guthlaxton, Framland, Goscote and Gartree. Since that time, the boundaries of the county have changed very little. 1974 was connected to Leicestershire through a territorial reform the county of Rutland. 1996 reform was repealed.
