Limburg (Belgium)

( Listen? / I ) Limburg is the easternmost province of the Flemish Region in Belgium.

The capital is Hasselt.

Geography

The Limburg province lies west of the Meuse, and is bordered to the field of Maasplassen to the Dutch province of Limburg (to which it had belonged up to the creation of Belgium in 1830 ), and the Belgian provinces of Liège, Flemish Brabant and Antwerp. Its area is 2414 km ². The province is divided into three administrative districts ( arrondissementen ) Hasselt, Maaseik and Tongeren and includes 44 municipalities.

Coat of arms

In the blue box a red gold -winning goldgezungter and gold reinforced doppelschwänziger lion. On the chest of a gold shield with five red bar. The sign of an oak branch with fruits accompanied on both sides.

On the escutcheon is placed a ducal crown. Coat of arms heraldic holders are right a deer and on the other side of a swan. The lion in the coat of arms is also known as Limburgian lion.

Language / features

Both in Belgium as well as in the Dutch province of Limburg is at least partially still spoken Limburg. This is just one aspect that connects the two provinces strong. In both provinces, the party Limburg concern is represented. She advocates for a unified and independent Limburg.

Culinary
