History

Finds indicate a prehistoric settlement since at least the Neolithic period. The Romans arrived here around the 3rd century BC Iron Age settlements that they romanized as part of its acquisition of land from the 2nd century. A variety of findings and excavations of houses, Roman roads and bridges show a relatively dense Roman settlement of present-day county area.

Lousada was first officially documented previously known in the 6th century AD as São Salvador de Lousada, the place was out at the royal surveys in 1220 as Santa Margarida de Lousada. First City rights were granted Lousada 1514 by King Manuel I, who rose to place in addition to Vila.

1708, the county Lousada extended over 12 municipalities. Enhancements to the number then rose in 1758 to 18 in the course of administrative reform by the Liberal Revolution in 1822 the county Lousada 1836 was dissolved. From 1838 Lousada was independent again, since with 25 municipalities.

Sports

Just on the outskirts of Lousada is the Eurocircuito de Lousada, a small circuit where each year up to 20,000 spectators races for FIA Rallycross and Autocross Championship from local Clube de Automóvel Lousada ( CAL) are organized.

Other sports clubs in the district are the Clube Juventude Hóquei, the Associação Desportiva de Lousada, and Aparecida Futebol Clube, among others. Tennis and karate modalities are more sporting focus in a circle.

Economy

In the secondary sector, in addition to furniture making and shoe-making, especially the textile industry here essential.

In the primary sector, alongside forestry and wood processing is primarily the Agriculture a traditionally important factor in a circle. This is especially the cultivation of corn, dairy farming, and the production of Vinho Verde to call, a specifically northern Portuguese wine specialty. Also, potatoes, beans and melons are major crops. Corn and wine were particularly influential here from time immemorial, as can be seen in the coat of arms of the town.

Traffic

The railway line Linha do Douro runs through the community. The 6 km northern district town Lousada is the breakpoint of Meinedo doing next.

Lousada is located on the A42 motorway, which meets here on the running from north to south A11.
