Ludwig Scotty

Ludwig Derangadage Scotty ( born June 20, 1948 in Anabar, Nauru ) was 2007 President of the Republic of Nauru and was already in front of 29 May 2003 to 8 August 2003 at the Office of 22 June 2004 until 19 December.

Scotty grew up in Anabar in the north of Nauru; He attended the School from 1960 to 1964 and studied at the University of the South Pacific in the Fiji capital Suva criminal and private law. On March 15, 1983, he was first elected to his constituency Anabar into Parliament; during his long tenure as parliamentarians Scotty was at times also chairman of the Bank of Nauru, the Nauru Rehabilitation Corporation and the board of Air Nauru.

Scotty served in the late nineties to 2000 as Speaker of Parliament and was under Bernard Dowiyogo 1992-1995 Minister of Health in January 2003 and after Dowiyogos death among derog Yioura also Minister of Justice. After the interim administration Giouras Scotty was elected after the parliamentary elections of March 2003 with a vote of 10 to 7 for president. He defeated while the leader of the Centre Party and former President Kinza Clodumar. Scotty was replaced by a narrow vote of no confidence with eight to nine votes against him in August 2003 and replaced by René Harris. On 7 April 2004 he resigned as Speaker of Parliament and thus resulted in a 46 -day " deadlock " of Parliament. Only when on June 22, 2004 Finance Minister Clodumar switched sides, he could displace again with a renewed confidence vote Harris and has been back in office. The cabinet consisted largely of the same parliamentarians as during his first term.

On 1 October 2004 Scotty declared a national emergency due to economic crisis and triggered at the same time the parliament; he set the election on the following October 23. In addition, he suspended parliament speaker Russell Kun from his office to prevent further parliamentary action to the elections. Scotty and his liberal- reformist followers won the parliamentary elections clearly; he was confirmed as parliamentarians. On October 27, Scotty named his cabinet. David Adeang remained Finance Minister Kieren Keke remained Minister of Health and Baron Waqa was Minister of Education. Godfrey Thoma became the new Minister of Justice and Frederick Pitcher new industry minister.

After a relatively quiet legislative Scotty moved in July 2007 before the parliamentary elections by two months from October to August. On 25 August 2007, the allegiance to him again won a convincing victory and 14 of the 18 seats in Parliament secured. On August 28, he was confirmed by the Parliament against challenger Marcus Stephen with 14 votes to 3 in office. In a no-confidence vote by 10 votes to 7, on 19 December but was still repressed by Stephen. Scotty remains as parliamentarians in politics.

Scotty is married and has seven children and grandchildren. In addition to chess as a hobby he pursued intensively the Australian football games in Nauru and Australia.
