Lukáš Rosol

Lukáš Rosol (born 24 July 1985 in Brno, then Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech tennis player.

Life and career

2002-2006: First experience as a junior and Futures Tournaments

After he had reached as a junior in 2002, 50th place Junior World Ranking, Lukáš Rosol played in the early years of his professional career exclusively Futures tournaments. He never came, however, at first beyond the second round. This changed in 2005, when he first reached two semi-finals and then his first final. Then in March 2006 he won his first Futures title in Poland, and then rose into the top 500 in the world rankings. Overall, he reached seven Future Finals, of which he was able to win three in 2006. In addition, Rosol has seen first match profits even at Challenger tournaments. He finished the year ranked 288 in the world rankings.

2007-2008: ATP debut and first Challenger title

In January 2007, Lukáš Rosol could qualify for an ATP tournament in Auckland by beating the top 100 players Simon Greul first time. In the first round he was defeated but then the top 10 player Mario Ančić. At the Australian Open he failed just like in Wimbledon and at the U.S. Open in qualifying. Rosol won this year a further three Futures titles on the Challenger level were two quarter- finals, the best results. In early 2008 succeeded Lukáš Rosol like last year, qualifying for the ATP tournament in Auckland. Again he left, however, against Sergio Roitman out in the first round. In June 2008, Rosol reached his first Challenger final, which he won against Miguel Ángel López Jaén in Košice. A month later he qualified successfully for the ATP tournament in Stuttgart, where he won his first ATP match against Martin Fischer. In the second round, but he left then in three sets against the set at position 2 Richard Gasquet. Through these successes Rosol rose for the first time into the top 200 in the world rankings.

2009-2010: More Challenger titles and Grand Slam debut

Lukáš Rosol early 2009, won his seventh first Futures title. Two months later he was able to prevail in Bergamo in his second Challenger final against Benedikt Dorsch, after he had defeated the top-seeded Fabrice Santoro in the quarterfinals. After several months without any major highlights Rosol succeeded in October 2009 to qualify for the ATP tournament in Vienna. There, however, he resigned in the first round against Wayne Odesnik. After falling in early 2010 for a short time out of the top 200, Lukáš Rosol won against Ivan Dodig his third Challenger title in May 2010 in Ostrava. In July 2010, he retired at the ATP tournament in Hamburg as a qualifier in the first round against Denis Istomin. Early September 2010, then succeeded Rosol at the U.S. Open for the first time qualifying for a Grand Slam tournament. However, he lost in the first round to eventual finalist Tommy Robredo eighth.

2011: success at the French Open and into the top 100

The year 2011 began for Lukáš Rosol with the successful qualification at the ATP tournament in Doha. There he lost his first round match against Ivo Karlovic in straight sets. There were throughout the course of a single match Break: Both sets were decided in the tie-break. After missed qualifying for the Australian Open Rosol reached the end of January 2011, the final of the Challenger tournament in Singapore, which he lost to Dmitry Tursunov. In Dubai Lukáš Rosol reached in February 2011 with a victory over Karol Beck for the second time in his career, the second round of the ATP tournament, left there but against Gilles Simon. In May 2011, Rosol won his fourth Challenger title in Prague. He defeated among others, the top 100 players Julien Benneteau and Alex Bogomolov junior. Two weeks later, Lukáš Rosol was the first to qualify for the French Open, where she won against Édouard Roger- Vasselin in five sets his first Grand Slam match. The second-round game against the set at position 8 Jurgen Melzer went through five sets. Against the previous year's semi-finalists fought Rosol two match points down, and eventually won the match after about four hours of play time. Rosols winning streak finally ended in the third round, where he lost in four sets to eventual quarter-finalists Juan Ignacio Chela. Due to its recent success, he moved then for the first time in his career in the top 100 in the world ranking. At Wimbledon, Rosol failed to qualify, but he was able to win his second Challenger title this year in the following week in Brunswick by defeating Yevgeny Donskoi. When ATP tournament in Hamburg Lukáš Rosol enlisted as a lucky loser after the main draw, defeating Potito Starace in two sets there before he retired against eventual finalists Nicolás Almagro. In the following tournament in Gstaad and Kitzbühel Rosol was then for the first time directly qualified for an ATP tournament, but he left respectively in the first round. In the rest of the season was followed by six more Erstrundenniederlagen, including at the U.S. Open. Only in St. Petersburg, he could once again reach the second round of an ATP tournament in October 2011. A highlight was Rosols debut for the Czech Davis Cup team when he to 5-0 victory over Romania contributed a single victory in September 2011. After a semi-final at the Challenger tournament in Bratislava Rosol ended his best season up to that point eventually ranked 70 in the world rankings.

2012: first ATP doubles title

In January 2012, Lukáš Rosol lost like last year in the first round of the ATP tournament in Doha. In doubles, but he was able to move to the side of Filip Polášek surprisingly the final. There, the Czech- Slovak duo sat in straight sets by Christopher Kas and against Philipp Kohlschreiber and so won his first ATP title together. During his Australian Open debut Rosol won against Philipp Petzschner just two games and lost after only 85 minutes of playing time with 0:6, 0:6 and 2:6. In March 2012, Rosol reached at the Masters tournament in Miami to wins over the top 50 player Michaël Llodra and Marcel Granollers, the third round, where he retired against Kei Nishikori. His biggest success, however, is the victory over Rafael Nadal in the second-round match at Wimbledon, which he was able to win in five sets.

2013: First ATP Title

In the first four months of the year Rosol could be Bestranking improve seven times. At the Australian Open Rosol reached the second round; In the PBZ Zagreb Indoors Rosol reached the quarterfinals at the ATP Dubai and the second round the ATP Bucharest Rosol defeated the seeded players Andreas Seppi ( 3), Viktor Troicki (8) and Gilles Simon (2). and was able to win against Guillermo García López his first ATP tournament.

Davis Cup

Since 2011 Lukáš Rosol played for the Czech Davis Cup team. In the 2012 season, the team qualified for the second time after 2009 for the final, which was held in Prague. Lukáš Rosol was in the final against Spain in the squad, but was not used; Czech Republic won the Davis Cup with a 3-2 victory. For interventions he came each against Italy in the first round and Serbia in the quarterfinals. He denied each one individual, which he won against Andreas Seppi Viktor Troicki respectively. 2013 he defended successfully with the Czech Republic the title, but did not like last year in the finals for use, but was part of the squad. He played in the first round, in the quarter and semi-finals a total of four individual lots, of which he won two, and a double lot with Tomáš Berdych. This won the two with 24:22 in the fifth set against Switzerland.
