Pergine Valsugana

Pergine Valsugana ( German outdated Persians or heels in Valsugana ), is a town with 20,700 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Trento.

Location

Located at the mouth of the Mocheni in the Valsugana, the city through the history of the castle Pergine ( heel ) is dominated. The spacious and sunny plain of Pergine ( heel ) is surrounded by mountains and forested valleys.

History

The area of Pergine was inhabited in prehistoric times. After the conquest of the region Pergine lay on the east Via Claudia Augusta to Altino.

845 the name Pergine was first mentioned. At the founding of the diocese of Trent in 1027 Pergine belonged to the new area. This Pergine belonged until 1786 to the diocese of Feltre. 1531 within the jurisdiction of Pergine was transferred in exchange for that of Bolzano to the Bishopric of Trent.

In the first half of the 16th century Pergine flourished by the resident mining here. In the 18th century the marshes were drained in the south of the city. 1815, the prince-bishopric was dissolved and Pergine was part of the former Tyrol. In 1919, Pergine, with the entire Trentino, Italy. 1928 were incorporated in Pergine 13 surrounding municipalities, the Pergine Valsugana is now called.

1955, the towns Falesina and Vignola Vignola as - Falesina Pergine were separated.

1881, the asylum of Pergine was built, in this clinic, many patients of today's South Tyrol were housed. With the reform of psychiatry in Italy ( 1978), the Institute of Pergine lost its importance. In 2002, she was finally closed. Many South Tyrolean patients in the hospital were from 1940, taken to Germany as part of the Option in South Tyrol, and there killed ( euthanasia ).
