Castello Tesino

Castello Tesino is a comune in the Trentino region of Trentino -Alto Adige with 400 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012).

Geography

The town is located 40 km east of Trento on the eastern edge of the Tesinotal ( Bassa Valsugana e Tesino ), a Untertal Valsugana. It lies at the southern end of the Passo Brocon below the mountains Monte Picosta ( 1421 meters) and Mont'Agaro and is part of the valley community Comunità Valsugana e Tesino. Through the village leads the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta.

The municipal area includes the districts Cainari, Coronini, Lissa and Roa.

Adjacent communities are Arsiè (BL ), Canal San Bovo, Cinte Tesino, Grigno Lamon (BL), Pieve Tesino and Scurelle.

History

First settlements took place in the period before the Romans. Traces from the 5th century BC, can still be found today on the Colle di San Ippolito. In Roman times the place became important, that he lay on the Roman road Via Claudia Augusta Altinate, led by Altinum to Augsburg.

Attractions

  • Chiesa di San Giorgio parrocchiale, mentioned already in the 12th century church on the main square of the village. Was repeatedly destroyed and rebuilt. The present building is from the year 1931.
