Geographical Location

The municipality is located in the district of Upper Franconia about five miles south of Bamberg at the mouth of napping Ebrach in the Regnitz.

Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise beginning ): Bamberg, Strullendorf, Hirschaid, Frensdorf and Stegaurach.

There is only the district Pettstadt.

History

Around the year 1070 was the first mention Pettstadts as " Betestat ", which at that time still belonged to the parish Amlingstadt. The name of the town derives from the personal name Petto, which was relatively common around the year 1000 in the Franconian- Thuringian region. In 1399 it came to the establishment of the parish Pettstadt. 1754 was the construction of the Baroque church under the architect Johann Jakob Michael Küchel. The place belonged to the cathedral chapter of Bamberg Bishopric of Bamberg, which was in the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500, and came up with this at the Imperial Diet of 1803 to Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community. 2002 led to a solution of the commitments made in Bavaria in the course of municipal reform in administrative matters with Frensdorf.

Policy

Mayor is Jürgen Schmitt (CDU community). He was the successor of Joseph Hack (CDU Community ) in 2002 and in 2008 was re-elected with 92.30 % of votes. His successor in 2014 Jochen Hack (CDU Community ) is selected, the 53.27 % of the vote in two opposing candidates.

Attractions and Other

Pettstadt has a Baroque church by the renowned architect Michael Küchel, the parish church of the Nativity of Mary.

A special feature of Pettstadt is the " Pettstadter blacksmith", the only ferry greed in Upper Franconia, leading a little east of the village on the Regnitz. It is from spring to autumn in operation and a popular stopover point for hiking and cycling.

The Pettstadter blacksmith who forged late 1910 champion Sebastian Schubert, was a regionally renowned original. Around the turn of the century he should not be complied into the night at the inn in the invitation a Gendameriestreife to leave the premises. Instead, he replied, "The I do, as I mooch. " The incident was reported to the police. However, the judge at the Royal Bavarian district court to Bamberg acquitted the accused because he could not see any offensive or revolting behavior. This developed into the well-known in Upper Franconia saying " Do it like the Pettstadter blacksmith" as an invitation to their own decisions.

Sports and Clubs

From the local club life, numerous events developed as the Pettstadter street festival on the third weekend in July, which is visited by citizens of the entire county.

The four largest clubs, the sports club Pettstadt (SVP ), the freehand shooting club Pettstadt (FSV), the Fishing Club Rauhenebrach (ARE ) and the music and singing club ( MWD) are also regionally successful. Since 2006 there has been in the community a very active Horticultural Association ( OGV ).

Breweries

The last brewery, Leonhard Schrauder brewery closed its doors in 1991.
