Ratchet on the wine route is a municipality with 434 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria. On 1 January 2015 it is affiliated under the Styrian municipality structural reform with the communities Bergshausen, Ehrenhausen and Retznei, the new community will be called Ehrenhausen on the wine route.

Geography

Ratchet on the wine route lies at 350 to 450 meters above sea level in southern Styria, bordering Slovenia.

The municipality comprises the two villages (in brackets population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Ottenberg (117 )
  • Ratchet on the Wine Route (331 )

The municipality comprises the cadastral Ottenberg and ratchet.

History

Ratchet was mentioned in documents in the 11th century for the first time under the name " Council ". The local church as an autonomous body created in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria. 1946, the Municipal House of partisans was on fire. 1962 the then independent municipality Ottenberg was connected as cadastral.

The mayor is John Zweytick (ÖVP ). The council is made up after the elections of 2010 are as follows: 7 ÖVP, SPÖ 2

Coat of arms

The coat of arms depicts a Klapotetz, a bunch of grapes and the South Styrian Wine Road.
