Retroflex nasal

Voiced retroflex nasal is a consonant, in which the tip of the tongue is bent backwards on the hard palate and all the air escapes through the nose with vibrating vocal cords.

Phonetic and orthographic realization of the voiced retroflex nasal in different languages:

  • Swedish [ ɳ ]: Every n, which is located with respect to r, " merges " with this to a retroflex. Example: Björn [ bjœɳ ]
