Voiced pharyngeal fricative
The voiced fricative pharyngale ( voiced, fricative educated in the throat ) has in different languages following phonetic and orthographic realizations:
- Arabic: ع ( ʕain; Unicode: ع )
- Ge'ez Tigrinya, Tigray and Argobba (not verschriftlicht ): ዐ (Unicode: U 12 D0)
- Hebrew: ע (Unicode U 05 e2, today only in Yemenite pronunciation, otherwise silent)
- Somali: C, c ( in the Latin alphabet, since 1972)
- Afar: Q, q ( Latin alphabet )
