Roghudi

Roghudi ( in Greek- Calabrian dialect: Richùdi or Rigùdi ) is a Southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1143 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Reggio Calabria, in the Calabria region. The municipality is situated approximately 66 km ( length of the road link ) east-southeast of Reggio Calabria in the Aspromonte. Roghudi is located in an area where the Grekaniko. Its neighboring municipalities are Africo, Bova, Condofuri, Cosoleto, Melito di Porto Salvo, Roccaforte del Greco and Sinopoli.

Districts

The municipality consists of the fractions Roghudi Roghudi Vecchio, Chorio di Roghudi and Roghudi Nuovo. The center ( Roghudi Vecchio) is located on the slope of a mountain spur above the Fiumara Amendolea. The village in the past has been greatly affected by landslides related to the frequently occurring during snowmelt and storms flood the Fiumara. It was abandoned by its inhabitants now, however - as opposed to Africo Vecchio - has not been officially abandoned. Some essential infrastructure such as power supply and a signposted road access from neighboring municipalities Roccaforte del Greco and Bova are in Roghudi Vecchio still available. Apart from the adjacent, partially inhabited Chorio di Roghudi the vast majority of community residents Roghudi lives in Roghudi Nuovo. This fraction was built from 1973 as a newly established site. It is 39 km ( length of the road link ) of Roghudi Vecchio and is administratively an enclave within the city limits of Melito di Porto Salvo. All administrative institutions of the community Roghudi are in Roghudi Nuovo while Roghudi Vecchio is left to decay and has assumed the character of a ghost town.
