Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Niterói

The Archdiocese of Niterói (Latin: Archidioecesis Nictheroyensis ) is a located in Brazil Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Niterói in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

History

The Diocese of Niterói was posted on April 27, 1892 by Pope Leo XIII. built out of territory of the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro and this is a suffragan. On November 15, 1895, the Diocese of Niterói were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Espírito Santo. Other annexations took place on December 4, 1922 establishing the Barra do Pirai dioceses and Campos, on April 13, 1946 to the founding of the diocese Petrópolis. The Diocese of Niterói was on March 26, 1960 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Nova Iguaçu.

On March 26, 1960, the Diocese of Niterói was raised to an archbishopric.
