Roman Å ebrle

Roman Šebrle (* November 26, 1974 in Lanškroun ) is a Czech decathlete, Olympic champion (2004) and World Champion (2007).

On 26 and 27 May 2001, he improved in the Austrian Götzis the Mösle all-around meeting the world record to 9,026 points. The brand was eleven years and was broken by the Americans Ashton Eaton in June, 2012. Šebrle is the first decathlete, which reached more than 9,000 points. At the 2000 Olympics in Sydney he won the silver medal ( 8,606 points), as well at the World Athletics Championships in Paris in 2003 ( 8,634 points).

His main goal was to win the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, which he with 8,893 points also succeeded, by which he set a new Olympic record. The American Bryan Clay drove him through his personal best of 8,820 points on this score.

At the World Championships in Helsinki in 2005, he wanted to still win the title last him missing, but as in 2003, losing to a U.S. citizen. In 2003 it had been Tom Pappas, 2005 Bryan Clay; Šebrle again won the silver medal ( 8,521 points). As at the European Championships in Munich in 2002 ( 8,800 points) he could at the European Championships 2006 in Gothenburg ( 8,526 points) win gold.

End of January 2007 he was hit in training camp in Potchefstroom (South Africa) by the spear of a South African athlete at the shoulder. Despite the injury, he was able to early March 2007 to win the heptathlon gold medal at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham. A few months later, he won with a score of 8,676 points for the first time the world title at the World Championships in Osaka. At the World Championships in Berlin in 2009, he was 11th ( 8,266 points ) at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu 14 and at the European Championships 2012 in Helsinki 6

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London Šebrle finished the race after running over 100 m due to a foot injury prematurely. He then announced his career end at the end of 2013.

At a height of 1.86 m his competition weight is 88 kg.
