Erki Nool

Erki Nool ( born June 25, 1970 in Võru, Estonian SSR, Soviet Union ) is a former Estonian athlete and current politicians and officials.

Career

Nool graduated from high school Saku in 1989 and worked as a night porter at the local hospital. In 1992 he took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona, ​​gave the competition the decathlete but after three failed attempts in the javelin on. Considerably more successful he was three years later, when he finished at the 1995 World Championships in fourth place with 8268 points. At the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 8543 ranged points, however, only a sixth. At the 1997 World Championships Nool came also to sixth place.

His greatest success came to him with the victory at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 with 8641 points. Nool thus became a folk hero in Estonia. During the two days of the decathlon, the Estonian student got out of school to watch the competitions of Sydney on television. When he came back from Sydney, 80,000 people celebrated him at the airport of Tallinn.

At the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton, he became vice - world champion with his personal best of 8815 points, which simultaneously represents the Estonian record. He completed his fourth and final part in the Olympics in Athens in 2004 from eighth place with 8235 points.

When he won the 1998 European Championships in Budapest gold with 8667 points and 2002 in Munich silver with 8438 points.

Also in the hall at the heptathlon Erki Nool convinced. At the World Championships he won in 1997 in Paris and 1999 in Maebashi silver and was established in 2001 in Lisbon fifth. In European Championships he won one gold (1996) and two bronze medals (2000 and 2002). His best performance is 6374 points.

Nools strength within the multi battle was the pole vault, his best performance was within a decathlon skipped 5.60 m. He is also the Estonian record holder in the long jump with a distance of 8.10 m, which he could achieve in the all around competition won by him meeting Götzis 1995.

Since 2007 he has been a deputy in the Riigikogu, the Estonian Parliament, for the conservative Isamaa yes Res Publica Liit (Pro Patria and Res Publica Union). In April 2011 he was elected to the Council of the European Athletics Association.
