Roy Romer

Roy R. Romer ( born October 31, 1928 in Garden City, Kansas ) is an American politician (Democratic Party). He was the 39th Governor of the U.S. state of Colorado.

Romer, former member of the House of Representatives (1958-1962) and the Senate of Colorado (1962-1966), was elected to the governorship in 1986 and 1990 and 1994 confirmed by re-election. He is the last governor of Colorado, who served three legislatures.

From 1992 to 1993 he was chairman of the National Governors Association. 1997 to 1999 he served as Co - Chairman ( General Chairman ) of the Democratic National Committee, the party organization of the Democrats. Romer is regarded as one of the outstanding educational policy of the country.

On 1 July 2001, he became superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District; he held until 2006 this post. With his wife, Bea, he has seven children and 15 grandchildren. One of his children is the economist Paul Romer.
