Sankt Johann im Saggautal is a municipality with 2048 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Leibnitz district in the Austrian state of Styria.

Geography

Sankt Johann im Saggautal is located at Eichberg in southern Styria. The Saggautal empties into the Sulmtal that runs up to Leibnitz. When one reads in the map of the region, one sees that Sankt Johann, also called "Styrian Tuscany " in Saggautal, specifically forms the Eichberg region, the heart of the South Styrian Wine Route.

History

The local church as an autonomous body created in 1850. After the annexation of Austria in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, 1945-1955, she was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 March 1961. Coat Description: In a green shield with a silver diagonally right wave beams, accompanied by a golden ear, left up of a golden banner, whose left abfliegendes flag leaf shows a black crosses at the bottom right. The top of the flagpole adorned with a cross.
