Si Mueang Mai District

Amphoe Si Mueang Soon ( Thai: อำเภอ ศรี เมือง ใหม่ ) is a district ( Amphoe ) in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani. The Ubon Ratchathani Province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, the so-called Isaan.

Geography

Neighboring districts are (from south-east clockwise): Amphoe Khong Chiam the, Phibun Mangsahan, Tan Sum, Trakan Phuet Phon and Pho Sai. To the east, on the opposite bank of the Mekong River is the Laotian province Salavan.

The most important water resource of the county is the Mekong River.

History

Originally the territory of a district ( Khwaeng ) was within the historic city ( Mueang ) Khong Chiam. The district head was Upahad ( อุปฮาด ), who was directly responsible to the Governor of Ubon Ratchathani. After the name of the district was for a few years Suwan Warin, he got in 1939 the historical name Khong Chiam.

On September 14, 1971, the district Khong Chiam was renamed Si Mueang May At the same time the district of Ban Dan, who had been separated in 1959 by Khong Chiam, was renamed in Khong Chiam, since there is the historic center of the historic Mueang.

Administrative units

Amphoe Si Mueang Mai ( tambon) divided into eleven municipalities, which in turn in 118 village communities ( Muban ) are divided.

Si Mueang May itself has a small-town status ( thesaban tambon), it consists of parts of the tambon Na Kham.

There are also eleven administrative organizations ( " Tambon Administrative Organizations" - TAO, Thai: องค์การ บริหาร ส่วน ตำบล ).
