Space Shuttle Endeavour
The Space Shuttle Endeavour (English for effort exertion) was completed on 25 April 1991 as a replacement for the space shuttle Challenger, and had its maiden flight on 7 May 1992. Its internal designation is OV- 105. The last launch took place on 16 May 2011 at 14:56 CEST clock; the last landing June 1, 2011 at 8:35 CEST clock in Florida.
History
The name for the Space Shuttle was found by a student competition, which was attended by a total of 71,652 students. In May 1989, U.S. President George HW Bush (hence the British spelling instead of the correct spelling in American English Endeavor ) announced the name Endeavour after the eponymous first ship of James Cook.
The Endeavour was built by Rockwell International and cost a total of 2.2 billion U.S. dollars. She completed 25 successful flights.
Finally, the shuttle between December 2003 and October 2005, overhauled ( Orbiter Major Modification period) and received this important technical and safety improvements. In addition to the so-called Transparent cockpit, a multi- assignable monitors equipped instrument panel, the Endeavour while an improved navigation system for determining the position and the force resulting from the recommendations of the " Columbia Accident Investigation Board " robotic arm extension received Orbiter Boom Sensor System ( OBSS ).
After their last mission in May / June 2011, the Space Shuttle has been assigned with the end of the U.S. shuttle program as a museum piece to the California Science Center in Los Angeles, and is on display there since October 2012.
