Urbès

Urbès (German Urbis ) is an Alsatian village with 457 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the French department of Haut-Rhin. The municipality is a member of the community association Vallée de Saint -Amarin and is part of the Regional Natural Park of Ballons des Vosges.

Geography

The town is located 450 meters above sea level on the European road E 512 Remiremont to Mulhouse, east of Col de Bussang, located in the municipality.

History

The village appears in documents of the year 1192 under the name Urbeis. Until the Revolution, it was a part of the community Mollau.

From the 16th to the 18th century where copper was mined, then the textile industry in the 19th century played an important role.

1938 failed there, the project launched in 1932 an eight -kilometer-long railway tunnel through the Vosges.
