Vaire - Arcier is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vaire - Arcier is located on 256 m, 11 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The double municipality extends Doubs Valley on the left southern side of the river, on the northwestern edge of the Jura, at the northern foot of the Jura - edge chain ( Cote ).

The area of ​​12.78 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Doubstals. History

The territory of Vaire - Arcier was probably already inhabited during the Roman period. The sources of Arcier were then taken and served the water supply of Vesontio (Besançon). Remains of the Roman aqueduct are still visible today.

Vaire shelter since the Middle Ages the rule of Montfaucon, while Arcier formed an ecclesiastical rule under the Archbishop of Besançon. Together with the Franche- Comté reached both towns with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France.
